Ulster Unionist Party delegation Visit Port of Larne

P&O have emphasised their commitment to the Port of Larne at a meeting with local Ulster Unionist Party representatives at the Harbour.  They have pointed to an investment of £15M in a new berthing facility in Cairnryan as a demonstration of their commitment to the Larne – Cairnryan route.  Both ports are part of the P& O Ferries Group of companies. Local construction firm McLaughlin & Harvey have won the contract to build the new Linkspan. Roy Beggs MLA along with Larne Mayor Maureen Morrow and Cllr Mark McKinty met with MD Keith Millar at the Harbour office to find out what the future of the Port is. 100 jobs on way as Caterpillar rolls out £7m deal

First Minister Peter Robinson described the investment by manufacturing giant Caterpillar as positive BY CLARE WEIR – 26 October 2013 A Northern Ireland manufacturing powerhouse is battling back from the brink with a new investment worth £7m, creating 100 jobs. In September 2012, Caterpillar – which bought over FG Wilson in 1999 – cut more than 700 jobs as it moved some manufacturing to China. Earlier this year there was a glimmer of hope as 200 jobs were created in west Belfast in a support office for Caterpillar’s global operations. Now the company will be adding a new production line making the yellow-coloured Cat machines for which the company is most famous. The vehicles, which will be exported worldwide, are typically used by customers around the world for scrap sorting and handling, and forestry use. Caterpillar to invest £7m in NI plant

Caterpillar (NI) Ltd will assemble wheeled material handling machines that will be sold in international markets. Production of the yellow Cat wheeled material handlers, which are used for scrap sorting and handling and forestry applications, will begin in the region from mid-2014. Part of the money will go towards training the estimated 100 people required to run the operation. Robert Kennedy, Caterpillar Northern Ireland Operations Director, said: “All Caterpillar Northern Ireland locations will benefit through the diversification of manufacturing, enabling us to continue to develop the skills and expertise of our local work force.” Jody Howard, General Manager for Caterpillar’s Industrial Waste Group, added: “This expansion recognises the high standard of the facilities, processes and skills in Northern Ireland. “We are making investments with a long-term view towards meeting our customers’ needs, while building an industry-leading range of products and support services from the base of operations in Northern Ireland.” … Continue reading

Good News for Local Economy with Caterpillar Investment

Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs Jnr has said that today’s Investment announcement by Caterpillar is very good news for his constituency.  The American manufacturing giant which now runs the former FG Wilson plants in Larne, Monkstown and West Belfast are diversifying their operations into manufacturing vehicles used in the scrap metal and forestry industries.
