Beggs Presses Environment Minister on Household Recycling

Ulster Unionist Assemblyman for East Antrim, Mr Roy Beggs has asked the Minister of the Environment for his “assessment of the figures for household recycling for the 26 local councils for October to December 2014.” Minister Durkan said “When the provisional information on municipal waste for the October to December quarter of 2014 was published back in April, I welcomed that the tonnage of recycled household materials excluding composting had increased by more than 16,000 tons, which is over 3·5%, compared with the same October to December period of the previous year. However, whilst the total tonnage of household materials sent for recycling increased, the rate of recycling decreased slightly by 0·3% to 38·6%, mainly because of the even faster growth in the total amount of waste collected by councils, but it is important to put that into context. Beggs Presses DETI Minister to Maximise East Antrim Tourist Industry

Ulster Unionist Party MLA for East Antrim, Roy Beggs, has presses the DETI Minister on his strategy to increase overnight stays in East Antrim and how he plans to maximise the tourism industry in East Antrim, during question time at the Northern Ireland Assembly. Mr Beggs said “The Minister mentioned the Causeway coastal route, which encompasses both the natural beauty of the north glen and the soon to open Gobbins cliff path. Does the Minister agree with me that it is important not just that we capture the day tripper, but that we also get overnight stays so that local hotels, bed and breakfasts and restaurants gain from such stays with additional resources? Beggs Welcomes 40k Awards for All Funding for East Antrim

Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has welcomed the fact that nearly £40k is to be invested in the East Antrim area by Awards for All.  The programme aims to bring real improvements to communities and to the lives of people most in need , by funding projects which involve people in their communities, bringing them together to enjoy a wide range of charitable, community, educational, environmental and health-related activities. Mr Beggs said “Cushendun and District Development Association have been granted £9,950 to carry out a series of recreational classes and community activities. Kilwaughter LOL 520 has also been given £10,000 to make improvements to its hall so it can be used for more community activities and events. “St James Primary School will use their £10k to provide iPads for their pupils for after-school activities and Ulidia Integrated College will allocate their £10,000 towards suicide awareness and prevention training for pupils … Continue reading
