Fears Glenarm area could lose GP services

Glenarm locals could be forced to travel for miles to access GP services when the village’s current doctor retires. Dr Benedict Glover, who has served the Glenarm area for 50 years at the Antrim Coast Road Medical Practise, will leave his post on March 31. Dr Benedict Glover. Lack of Concrete Proposals for Continuation of Coast Road GP Service is Alarming – Beggs

Roy Beggs MLA who had been pressing the Health and Social Care Board to ensure the continuation of GP services for the patients of the Antrim Coast Road Medical Practise, has expressed disappointment and a degree of alarm at the lack of concrete proposals to date. Roy Beggs said “Doctor Glover has provided decades of dedicated service to his Antrim Coast Medical Practise and its patients. He has provided this service well beyond the normal retirement date. Beggs Welcomes Funding Awards for East Antrim

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs has welcomed news that local groups have received funding awards to continue good work in the area. Mr Beggs MLA said “Acceptable Enterprises Ltd, based in Larne, has received a grant for £600,000. The social enterprise is supporting young people with a learning disability or disadvantage aged 16 to 19 who attend special schools in Larne, Newtownabbey, Ballymena and Jordanstown.” The project through work and social activities, provides the young people with real experience in manufacturing, retail, packaging, assembly, catering and horticulture. They are also learning life skills such as confidence, team work and communication. The young people are steering the project, helping design and develop the activities, mentoring others and helping to evaluate the project. ASB in Carrickfergus

Commenting on recent Anti-Social Behaviour in Carrickfergus, Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist Party MLA for the area said; “All parents of teenage children need to know where your children are, who are they with and what are they doing? The relatively small proportion of young people involved in Anti-Social Behaviour risk getting a criminal record that could affect their life chances and even their ability to travel overseas to certain countries. Think of your children and think of the members of the community that are being abused.”

‘Intimidating’ Larne graffiti condemned

A local councillor is urging the public to “let the PSNI police the community” after extensive grafitti appeared throughout Larne and Glenarm. UUP Councillor and Chair of Mid and East Antrim PCSP Andrew Wilson spoke out after the appearance of several signs bearing the words “House Breakers” alongside a symbol of a circle containing a cross. Graffiti on the former Poundstretchers building in Lower Cross Street. INLT-52-704-con Two such slogans were scrawled across Larne’s Laharna building at Riverdale, while another appeared on the boarded-up doors of the former Poundstretchers store in Lower Cross Street and a third was spotted on a wall in Fleet Street. There were also reports of a slogan in Boyne Square, Linn Road and Antiville. Meanwhile, two similar slogans were spotted in the neighbouring village of Glenarm.
