Even though the short life of Princess Diana was scrutinised exhaustively by the media both before and after that fatal car crash in Paris, the television interview by her sons provides deep personal insights into their mother.
Prince William and Prince Harry have taken part in a special programme to mark the 20th anniversary of her death, and their comments show that the young boys were heartbroken at the death of their mother, who had worldwide fame.
She was a royal princess, but she was also their mother. Many who have lost loved ones feel the same, and will recognise those emotions. Death, at any age, is a great leveller.
