Arrest As Belfast Resident Finds Man Asleep In Their Home

Police have made an arrest after a west Belfast resident returned home to be confronted by broken glass and a man asleep in their home.

The break-in happened in the Cavendish Square area of the city shortly before 9pm on Thursday 01 August.

The resident discovered the sleeping intruder and immediately contacted the police.

A PSNI spokesperson explained: “They called us on 999 and crews were immediately tasked. We have arrested sleeping beauty- a 19 year old male- on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary, assaulting police and possession of a class B drug. He is currently helping with our enquiries.”

Police are also investigating three other burglaries in the Stewartstown Road, Clonavogie Gardens and Falls Road areas that were reported throughout the day yesterday, however they do not believe any of the incidents are linked.

The public are reminded to report any suspicious activity in their area, while always prioritising the security of their home. Always keep doors locked, close and lock windows and doors at night or when your home is unoccupied, and don’t leave car keys near windows or doors.

“An opportunist criminal only needs a matter of seconds to steal your belongings!,” the officer concluded.
