Beggs Signs up to Marie Curie Charter

East Antrim Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has added his support to the Marie Curie Charter for those suffering from a terminal illness.

Mr Beggs said “I believe that everyone in Northern Ireland has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, receive high quality care and support when and where you need it.  I also believe that you should be included in making decisions about your care and that you should be informed about the care and support you receive.  I was therefore pleased to added my signature to the Marie Curie Charter for those suffering from a terminal illness.”

A Marie Curie spokesperson added, “everyone has the right to live well until they die.  Yet we know from our research that an estimated 3,000 people with terminal illness in Northern Ireland are missing out on the care they need.  We know that a number of barriers can prevent people accessing the care they need, including the type of condition they have and a lack of awareness around what palliative care is and what services are available.
