Beggs speaks of his shock at arrest of Larne based Marine in Somerset

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has outlined his shock that a Larne based Royal Marine has been arrested in Somerset in connection with Northern Ireland related terrorism.

Mr Beggs, a member of the Justice Committee said “To hear that a Larne based soldier has been arrested in England with suspected links to terrorism in Northern Ireland has shocked me and I am sure that it has shocked the wider community.  It appears that a number of houses have been searched as part of the investigation and that the arrest is related to 2 major dissident republican arms dumps found in Carnfunnock and Capanagh parks.”

Mr Beggs MLA continued “If there is clear evidence linking individuals to the significant arms dumps that were previously found, that must be welcomed. The entire community will be much safer if those who have been responsible for amassing the arms caches are brought to justice. The significant amount of elaborate bomb making equipment that was previously uncovered could have resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
