Beggs urges constituents to check their vehicles MOT status on-line and for DVA to issue MOT reminders

Following on from news that the Department for Infrastructure is to extend some vehicles MOT by 4 months, East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs has urged vehicle owners to check their vehicle MOT status online and for DVA to issue reminders.

UUP Infrastructure Spokesperson Roy Beggs said “With periodic MOT extensions having been given, there has been some confusion around MOTs in recent weeks. Indeed, some constituents have contacted me complaining that they have discovered that their vehicles MOT are due when they have not been given a reminder by DVA. I have recently tabled a series of questions to the Infrastructure Minister on this matter to identify why hard copy or email reminders are no longer issued. This is an important issue as some drivers may not be aware that their vehicle is no longer deemed to have a valid MOT. In turn this could have implications for their insurance and their ability to renew their road tax. The absence of MOT reminders is adding to the confusion
If your vehicle has previously had an exemption or extension, please check out this link https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status to see the current MOT status of your vehicle.

In the absence of MOT testing, many have not been getting their cars serviced. As a result, defective brakes and other issues effecting road safety are not been spotted. I would urge all drivers to have their cars check regularly as defects will endanger their own lives or the lives of others.”
