Former UUP Leader and Carrick MP Jim Molyneaux dies aged 94

Roy Beggs MLA remembers Jim Molyneaux, a former Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, who served as MP for Carrickfergus and Greenisland between 1970 and 1974.  In recent times, Molyneaux served in the House of Lords, and was known as Baron Molyneaux of Killead, KBE, PC.

Roy Beggs said “When I served as the secretary of the Ulster Young Unionist Council in 1986/87, I got to know Jim Molyneaux.  I worked alongside Jim and had canvassed with him on a number of occasions.  He had a strong work ethic in representing both his constituents and the best interests of the people of Northern Ireland.”

“Aside from serving as a Member of Parliament for many decades, Jim also served as a soldier in WW2, and was one of the first to enter Bergen-Belsen.   Jim was held in the highest regard by all who knew him, and my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family circle at this time.”
