Football is a game that arouses passions like no other and it is unfortunate that this evening’s showpiece Champions League clash between Linfield and Celtic will not see both sets of fans at Windsor Park voicing their fervent support for their heroes.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who is from Northern Ireland, is understandably disappointed his team’s supporters will not be there because of safety fears, but the creation of a fanzone in the west of the city for them may be an innovative compromise. Whatever the result, the hope is that football will be the winner and that Northern Ireland does not score an own goal through adverse publicity.
