Link road in Larne West is finally complete

The completion of roads infrastructure linking Lindara and Walnut Hollow in Larne West has been welcomed by east Antrim MLA Roy Beggs.

Residents have long been lobbying for the infrastructure in the area to be brought up to standard, after developer Eassda went into administration in 2009, leaving roads, footways, street lighting, storm drains, sewers and manholes incomplete.

However, the Roads Service has cashed in builders’ bonds in the region of £500,000 to pay for the installation of upgrades at the housing development.

And Ulster Unionist representative Mr Beggs said he is now looking forward to the early introduction of public transport into the area.

He added: “It has been a source of massive frustration for residents living in these private developments in Larne West, but finally the roads and pavements covered by the roads bonds for Lindara have been finished.

“The surfacing of the main spine road running through Lindara connecting to Blackthorn Hollow and in turn on to Killyglen Road has also been completed.

“The white lines have been marked out, and I look forward to Roads Service officially adopting the road for future public maintenance, and crucially giving Translink the green light to introduce bus routes into Lindara and Walnut Hollow.

“I have a long-standing commitment from the Translink/Ulsterbus manager at Larne bus station – Mr Sam Todd – to put the local town service bus through this area on an hourly timetable.

“This will be a welcome development particularly for those pensioners keen to make more use of their senior travel passes.”
