New report highlights job creation by fast food chain

Restaurant and fast food chain McDonalds now employs 80 people in Carrickfergus, according to a new report.

The independent economic assessment, commissioned by the company to mark its 40th anniversary in the United Kingdom, reveals the business and its suppliers make a combined annual contribution of £76 million to the Northern Ireland economy.

The Carrick outlet opened in 1997 at Rodgers Quay and has taken part in a number of community projects.

Franchisee Des Lamph began his McDonald’s career over 20 years ago and now runs nine restaurants. He said: “Creating and sustaining jobs locally is of huge importance to me and the fact that we have been able to make a significant financial contribution to Northern Ireland is something my team and I are very proud of.

“As a member of the local community, I’m dedicated to continuing the work that my teams are already doing, from supporting local community initiatives to sponsoring grassroots football team Geenisland Football Team and Youth Club.”

Andrew Duncan, operations manager for Des’s nine restaurants, said: “Since I first joined McDonald’s I have developed skills and competencies in all areas of the hospitality industry focusing on customer service, training, management and leadership throughout my various roles.”
