No to customs border at Port of Larne – Beggs

Following a visit to the Port of Larne & the publication by HM Government on future customs arrangements, Roy Beggs MLA has reiterated the Ulster Unionist view that there should not be an EU/UK customs border in Larne.

Roy Beggs MLA said “A customs border will inhibit trade and add bureaucracy to businesses. I welcome the publication by HMG of their ‘Future Customs Arrangements’ paper which outlines their proposals to minimise a hard border with the Republic of Ireland. Ulster Unionists remain extremely concerned at suggestions by the Republic of Ireland Government that the Irish Sea/ North Channel could become a de facto hard border post Brexit. It would be completely unacceptable to separate Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK with Passport control and customs”.
