Poor state of mental health unit calls for urgent action

Once again Holywell Hospital near Antrim has made headlines for all the wrong reasons, and Roy Beggs MLA has further underlined the assessment by the local health trust that it is no longer fit for purpose.

Mr Beggs’ comments also echo the persistent concerns raised locally and nationally about mental health provision in general.

Of course, budgets are tight, but the Department of Health must urgently examine the worrying situation at Holywell.

It is also incumbent on the politicians to get back to work at Stormont and to do something positive about Holywell, and so many other pressing needs.
