One of the most senior PSNI officers in Northern Ireland was taken on a tour in Carrick yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Peter Farrar accompanied a neighbourhood officer on a foot patrol, starting in Glenfield estate.
A spokesperson for PSNI Carrickfergus said: “The boss wanted to see some of the places he has heard so much about recently.
“Whatever you have heard about what’s going on in Carrickfergus, the one message we want to send is that we will not tolerate criminality of any kind.
“No matter what you call your gang, what side you claim to be on or what ideology you hide behind, the vast majority of people are sick and tired of the misery and havoc you create.”
Earlier this month, Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs called for “tit-for-tat” attacks to stop.
The appeal came amid heightened tensions in the town which saw an arson attack on a business at Woodburn Road in which five cars were set alight.
The spate of attacks is believed to be linked to an ongoing loyalist feud between rival factions of the South East Antrim UDA which has already claimed two lives.
At the weekend, PSNI Carrickfergus reported that patrols have been stepped up in Carrick and Larne in response to “community concerns about criminality” in Carrick and Larne.
