FG Wilson Job Losses ‘Deeply Concerning’.

Ulster Unionist East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs Jnr has commented on the job losses announced for Larne based generator manufacturer FG Wilson. Mr Beggs said: “The news that a production line based at FG Wilson’s Larne factory is being transferred to Tianjin, China with the loss of 160 jobs and the possibility of a loss of a further 100 jobs is deeply concerning. We simply cannot afford to be exporting jobs rather than products to China or anywhere else. “Throughout the current recession, the continued success of FG Wilson has been a beacon of hope for the local economy. Relatively recently, there have been announcement of major investment in a state of the art Assembly line and more staff were hired, albeit on an agency basis. I understand that initially it is agency workers who will lose their jobs and this will be devastating to the families affected. We need … Continue reading

Rates Hike warning for Larne and Carrickfergus

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim Roy Beggs Jnr has warned of the potential for significant rates hikes in Larne and Carrickfergus as a result of the 11 Council proposal which will see Larne and Carrickfergus being joined to Ballymena in a new Council configuration. Mr Beggs said: “The Ulster Unionist Party supported a 15 Council model based on the 18 Parliamentary Constituencies, with one Council to cover the four Belfast Constituencies. However a 11 Council model with a new local government body for Mid and East Antrim has been pushed through at Stormont with the votes of DUP, SF and Alliance party. This paves the way for Larne and Carrickfergus to be merged with Ballymena in an artificially constructed new Council. The issues about lack of local identity and the dilution of local democracy are important but in many ways academic arguments compared to the likelihood of rising rate … Continue reading

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA said, “I would ask the local community to give any information they might have to the police of this assailant who was willing to use his knife on a defenceless woman.   This man is a danger to the local community and the sooner he is off the streets and his weapon is confiscated the better.   Given the description given, I have no doubt that someone will know who it was and should give information to the PSNI.   Someone may even feel personally threated by him.  If so, I would suggest that the anonymous Crimestoppers telephone number 0800 555 111  could be used assist police identify him. Local shops provide an important service to local communities … Continue reading
