Sinn Fein cannot pick and choose when the law applies – Beggs

The Ulster Unionist Party’s East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs has called for the Police and the Public Prosecution Service to ensure that Gerry Kelly is subjected to the same rigours of the law as he sought for all other citizens when he obstructed a police land rover in a dangerous situation. Roy Beggs said, “What would happen if you or I obstructed the passage of a police vehicle? What would happen if a flag protestor obstructed the passage of a police vehicle? Earlier this year Gerry Kelly was reported as saying that the Chief Constable Matt Baggott had “lost the plot”. (see note1 below). Beggs Asks Alliance to Explain their Support for Terrorist Special Advisers

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim, Roy Beggs, has criticised the Alliance Party for backing Sinn Fein retaining high profile Special Advisers with serious criminal terrorist convictions, and has urged Stewart Dickson to explain their support for Sinn Fein. During the second reading of a Bill to stop convicted terrorists becoming Special Advisers, the Alliance Party opposed the passage of the proposed law change Mr Beggs commented; “I accept that just because someone has a past, does not mean that they cannot have a future. However Special Advisers are not appointed on open competition. They are presently given privileged access to sensitive government information without the requirement of undergoing vetting- which applies to all others in the senior civil service.
