Beggs welcomes issuing of A2 upgrade vesting order

Roy Beggs MLA has welcome another landmark in the A2 widening scheme at Greenisland with the Roads Minister Danny Kennedy MLA, issuing the vesting order to secure ownership of the remaining land and properties required to construct the new road. Beggs condemns Glenarm arson attack

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim has condemned the arson attack on a family home in Glenarm. Roy Beggs said, “This was a very serious incident and it is fortunate that the family and indeed those in neighbouring property have not suffered injury as a result of the arson attack. Once a fire gains a hold, no one knows when it will end. The incident involving petrol and a tyre set alight at the front door could easily have resulted in fatalities and a murder inquiry. Such incidents can cause serious injury themselves and indeed risk the lives of others as emergencies services are drawn from other emergency situations. I would ask anyone with any information that might be relevant to contact the police so that those responsible can be held to account for their actions. Local fire-fighters must be praised for swiftly extinguishing the fire. ”

BEGGS SEEKS REOPENING OF FOOTPATHS CLOSED BY RIVERS AGENCY

Roy Beggs MLA has sought an explanation from the Rivers Agency for the delays in the flood alleviation scheme on the Sullatober Water which has resulted in local rights of way being closed for almost a year rather than the 16 weeks that were originally indicated.   Roy Beggs said, “As a local representative I have been aware of the need to upgrade waterways and improve flood management to reduce the risk of flooding in Carrickfergus Town Centre and other locations within the Town. I was therefore very pleased when the Rivers Agency upgraded the Sullatober Water in their phase 1 development and have been supportive of their further improvements on their phase 2 which commenced from the 5th September 2011 and was expected to last some 16 weeks. It is rather surprising that almost a year later the pathways and the Shaftsbury underpass remains closed. I have contacted the … Continue reading
