East Antrim UUP MLA Roy Beggs has supported the launch of Bike Week 2015 at Parliament Buildings and urged the public to try getting on their bike either using the Belfast Bike hire scheme or their own bike on the local expanding East Antrim cycle network.

Mr Beggs MLA said, “The versatile option of getting around the city centre using the Belfast Bikes, similar to the Boris Bike, have already proven to be popular.  The Belfast Bike in conjunction with the park and ride schemes in Larne and Carrickfergus is enhancing public transport options and will enable some to leave their car behind and reduce city centre congestion.”

“As a recreational cyclist myself and would urge more to try out the health benefits of cycling.  The new cycle lane alongside Prince Andrew Way Carrickfergus and on the A2 Shore Road, once it is completed in the Summer will help link East Antrim to the Belfast cycle network. This improved cycling provision will complement the new road and the enhanced park and ride facilities that facilitate those who use bus and rail within East Antrim.”
