Beggs supports Health fraud crackdown

Roy Beggs MLA, the Ulster Unionist Party’s Health spokesperson has supported plans to crack down on fraud in the Health Service.

The East Antrim representative said;

“The Ulster Unionist Party is fully supportive of plans to reduce fraud in the National Health Service.

Fraud is wrong and must be condemned and tackled wherever it is found.

I am shocked to learn that a recent study by the University of Portsmouth estimates that fraud amounts to between three and seven per cent of expenditure in advanced health systems, and that in Northern Ireland this could amount to a worst case scenario of £250 million.

This is a staggering figure at a time when the Health Service is under ever increasing demand, and every penny of it is money which could and should be spent on front line services.

It is in all our interests to support this campaign and to work to ensure it succeeds.”
