Beggs welcomes £152k resurfacing scheme for Old Glenarm Road, Larne

Roy Beggs MLA has welcomed new of a £152,000 resurfacing scheme for Old Glenarm Road, Larne which will commence on Monday 1 March 2021. The scheme, which extends from Ballycraigy Road for approximately 0.8 km east towards Greenland Road, is expected to be completed by Friday 23 March 2021.

East Antrim Ulster Unionist representative Roy Begs MLA said “I welcome the resurfacing of this busy route from Larne servicing the Coastal area. There is a need to increase expenditure on maintaining road surfaces as the failure to renew the surface often results pot holes and ongoing expensive patching and poor use of limited funds.”

Roy Beggs MLA, the Ulster Unionist Infrastructure spokesperson, has questioned the proportion of funds now being committed to major new road systems when there is insufficient funds to maintain the existing road network.

Due to the nature of the scheme it will be necessary to introduce a full road closure on Old Glenarm Road on the weekends of 6th / 7th March and 13th / 14th March 2021. During these times a diversion will be in operation via Ballycraigy Road, Upper Cairncastle Road, The Roddens and Greenland Road. Traffic control will be in operation at all other times.
