Beggs Welcomes More Investment on Rail Line in East Antrim

Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs Jnr has welcomed track and station improvements completed, and about to start on the Larne railway line.
Translink have announced several new projects including the replacement of 5 miles of jointed track with continuous welded rail between Whitehead and Larne and a 200 metre extension of the platform at Larne Harbour to accommodate 4 x 3 car trains.

The East Antrim MLA said:
“I welcome this further investment in the Larne line. Passengers on the Larne line are finally benefitting from the higher levels of comfort available on the new Class 4000 fleet of new trains. The smoother ride which the welded track will provide will enhance the experience of passengers traveling between Whitehead and Larne. The imminent platform extension at the Harbour, adding to completed platform extensions at Larne Town, Whitehead, Downshire, Carrickfergus, Jordanstown and Whiteabbey will enable longer trains to use the stations and so increase the capacity of the service during busy peak times.

Mr Beggs continued:
“Passengers from the busy Whitehead to Belfast section can also look forward to an enhanced frequency of service before the end of the year. The new trains with increased punctuality and reliability, along with the introduction of Wifi means that Translink can expect further significant growth on the railway line. This will be a welcome addition to relieve potential traffic pressures that may emerge when the A2 and A8 roadworks get underway. ”
