Beggs States Conerns at Seventh Power Line Metal Theft in Seven Weeks

Ulster Unionist representative Roy Beggs MLA, who is developing a Scrap Metal Dealers Bill (NI), has spoken of his concern following the seventh power line theft in seven weeks in Northern Ireland. The most recent theft involved over a mile of copper wiring being removed from NIE power lines on the Antrim Road, in Newtownabbey. Roy Beggs MLA said “I am concerned at this most recent metal theft, which is the seventh from our electricity network in seven weeks in Northern Ireland and is disrupting local communities. The sawing down of poles carrying live electricity cables creates a significant hazard, where lives could be lost. Power supplies will be affected which will leave the most vulnerable people in our society at risk as many heating systems cannot operate without electricity. Health Minister not in control of his responsibilities – Roy Beggs MLA

Ulster Unionist Health Spokesperson Roy Beggs has claimed the endless flow of concerns coming from the A&E unit in Northern Ireland’s busiest hospital show all the hallmarks of a Minister not in control of his responsibilities. The East Antrim MLA has also called on the Coroner to investigate the deaths of five people of which delays in the Royal Victoria Hospital may have been a contributing factor. Roy Beggs MLA said; “The problems in the Royal’s Accident and Emergency Unit are nothing new but the revelation of just how bad the situation has been is. Need to Raise Awareness of Ovarian Cancer Highlighted

Speech on Ovarian Cancer 11/3/13 East Antrim MLA and UUP spokesman on health Roy Beggs Jnr has called on the Minister for Health to take forward an interactive awareness campaign on the issue of ovarian cancer. The Ulster Unionist MLA outlined the fact that ovarian cancer leads to 6•6% of all cancer deaths in Northern Ireland and that 500 lives could be saved in the United Kingdom European levels of diagnosis and treatment were matched. Speaking in support of an Assembly motion Mr Beggs said: “Ovarian cancer is one of the commonest forms of cancer affecting women in Northern Ireland. In 2011, it accounted for 2•6% of female cancer cases, and one in 87 women is affected by it.
