Beggs gives cautious welcome to new AES contract

Roy Beggs MLA, who had expressed concern at the reducing electricity availability to meet demand has given a cautious  welcome to the announcement that AES have been awarded an additional contract by SONI to increase the capacity of the NI Electricity supply.

Roy Beggs said, “Given the delays in building the new cross border electricity network, and the reduced capacity of the Moyle interconnector, NI consumers and businesses risked power outs during the peak winter demand period.   I therefore give a cautious welcome to the new contract that have been given to AES.  Given their generating plants operating at Ballylumford and Kilroot, this may also result in additional local jobs.  However, what is yet to emerge is if there will be any additional costs to the heavily pressed local businesses and residential consumers.”
