Beggs welcomes Kilroot Energy Park

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs has welcomed the environmentally friendly vision for Kilroot Energy Park, as outlined by EPUKI.

Roy Beggs MLA said “Recognising the importance of Electricity Generation at Kilroot, I had previously successfully lobbied SONI and the Regulator to recognise that the current Kilroot generating capacity was require to provide a secure electricity supply in NI. I now welcome EPUKI’s concept of a Kilroot Energy Park, which can build on the recently awarded T-4 competitive tender. The planned investment in new generating capacity and plans for a gas linkup will ensure continued generation at Kilroot for many years to come. The environmental friendly concept outlined by the Kilroot Energy Park involving solar, battery storage, hydrogen and combined heat and power has the potential to be good for the environment, good for consumers and provide local employment. The vision of £600m investment could secure 150 full time operational jobs for East Antrim on top of a requirement for hundreds of jobs during the construction phase of the work.”
