Beggs Secures A8 Grass Cutting
Ulster Unionist Party representative Roy Beggs MLA has pressed for the cutting on the unsightly central grass reservation on the A8 Belfast Road dual carriageway approach to Larne, between Millbrook and the New Ballyrickard road Roundabout Mr Beggs said “The section of the A8 between Millbrook and the new Ballyrickard Road roundabout had been under the control of the Road Contractor and the grass in the central reservation had not been cut at all during 2015. This created an unsightly picture for visitors to Larne. It is now back under Transport NI control and following a complaint from a local constituent I pressed Transport NI to improve the area. Whilst I am pleased that Transport NI have commenced cutting the unkempt central area, they still have to complete the job by cutting the areas adjacent to the Road. Beggs demands urgent action to save millions of pounds in enforcing fine defaults
Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has highlighted the unacceptable cost of fine enforcement services. Speaking after the issue was raised during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, the East Antrim MLA also questioned why the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service is taking two more years to implement a modernised system that would save literally millions of pounds. Mr Beggs said; “Over the past number of years an increasing number of people have ended up in prison for the non-payment of fines. Our prisons should be for people who commit serious crime, not for people who fail to pay fines. That is why I believe the current system needs reviewed. “The justice system in Northern Ireland often seems out of touch with reality. Beggs questions cost of enforcing fine defaults
Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has highlighted the disproportional current cost of fine enforcement services. Speaking after the issue was raised during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, the East Antrim MLA also questioned why the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service is taking two more years before a system to modernise this will be implemented.
