Beggs Welcomes Outline Planning Permission for Howden’s Quay

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim, Roy Beggs Jr, has welcomed outlined planning permission for a developer led improvement to the A2 at the derelict Howden’s Quay site on the route into Larne. Roy Beggs MLA said “The Howden’s Quay area has been derelict for a long time so any work to rejuvenate the area has to be welcomed.  The site could be best described as an eye sore at present, and I welcome the outline planning permission that has been granted for the redevelopment of the area which will see housing, industrial units and leisure facilities established. The much needed work will provide short term job opportunities in the construction sector and then provide longer term opportunities in leisure and industry for Larne.  The redevelopment will also rectify issues on the road that has seen traffic systems installed in recent times, therefore allowing for freer movement of vehicles along … Continue reading

Beggs calls for calm and respect for rule of law

Following car high jacking and fires on the street in the Woodburn area of Carrickfergus, Roy Beggs MLA has called for calm, respect for the rule of law and an end to destruction in an already deprived area. Roy Beggs MLA said, “Setting bonfires on the street and destroying vehicles is damaging to all who live in the Woodburn area.  Its serves no purpose.  I would call for an end to this illegal activity which is inconveniencing residents and detracting from the neighbourhood.  Having visited the area, I would urge statutory agencies to assist in clearing all debris from the roadway as soon as possible so that normality can return. The Police have a duty to investigate the mob violence that occurred recently in Larne and to follow any incriminating leads regarding this or other criminality.  I would encourage the public to assist the Police with their investigations by providing … Continue reading

Roy Hails Jobs Boost at Millbrook Factory

Roy Beggs Jnr, Ulster Unionist Party MLA for East Antrim who lives near the Millbrook factory, has described a major jobs announcement for a Larne based pharmaceutical company Terumo BCT as ‘very exciting’: “If, as has been announced, these are 416 brand new jobs, then that is a very exciting and significant boost in employment opportunities for the people of Larne and surrounding area. The old ‘Ivex’ site at Millbrook has been a main stay of valuable employment for the local people over the years, through numerous name changes and company takeovers.” Mr Beggs added that in the context of heavy job losses at nearby FG Wilsons last year, it was essential that new jobs are delivered on the ground. The UUP MLA said: “One of the recent criticisms of Invest NI and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment is that there have been numerous announcements of ‘promoted’ jobs … Continue reading

Roy supports Larne Jubilee Roundabout

Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs Jnr has criticised a Sinn Fein campaign against the awarding of planning approval for a decorative Crown Structure marking the Queen’s Jubilee at a roundabout in Larne as ‘petty, sectarian and confrontational’. SF MLA McMullan who lives in Cushendall, 25 miles north of the relevant roundabout at Circular road, wrote a badly spelt and punctuated objection letter referring to creating a ‘flashpoint’. The 49 other objections were from people who signed a standard letter, none of whom are demonstrated as being local to the site. Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim Roy Beggs Jnr said: “It is disappointing, although predictable that Sinn Fein should be campaigning against an environmental improvement scheme, which at the very least has created an interesting, and in most people’s opinion, an attractive feature out of an otherwise nondescript roundabout. To my knowledge no local residents have any problem with … Continue reading
