Ulster Unionists receive DETI Update on Superfast broadband roll out for Carrickfergus

Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA recently contacted the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster MLA on behalf of a number of constituents who had contacted him in relation to the lack of provision for superfast broadband in Carrickfergus.  As a result of the initial contact, the UUP MLA raised awareness of the situation in the local area adjacent to the Middle Road, Carrickfergus, by way of a petition, in conjunction with local Councillor Andrew Wilson, which was then passed onto the Minister to show the need in the local area. Beggs Welcomes Crime prevention advice in Tullygarley Area

Ulster Unionist Party representative Roy Beggs MLA has welcomed news that the PNSI are to hold a meeting in the Tullgarley community to offer advise on crime prevention, in conjunction witj Mid and East Antrim Agewell Partnership. Roy Beggs MLA said “I am aware that there has been a recent spate of burglaries in the Tullygarley area and I have been in discussions with the PSNI on this issue.  I welcome the proactiveness of the PSNI and MEA Agewell Partnership in engaging with the community to offer advise and I would again urge that all suspicious activity be reported to the police.”

Beggs Urges O’Dowd Rethink over Primary Modern Language Funding

Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has spoken of the need to continue to fund the Primary Modern language Programme, which is earmarked to finish on the 31st March. Roy Beggs MLA said “having been contacted by constituents in relation to the provision for primary school modern languages, I have been advised that this service is due to be axed from the 31st March.  Modern languages are useful and it is imperative that the skill is picked up at an early age, when there is less to inhibit learning, and when learning of languages is potentially more natural.  In my opinion, modern languages will also greatly benefit the children if they ever visit mainland Europe.” “A second language is hugely advantageous if you wish to live and work elsewhere in the European Union, or even when seeking partners for EU funded projects. Beggs Urges Community to Attend FarmSafe Event in Kilwaughter

Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has encouraged the community to attend a Farm Safe awareness workshop which has been organised for the 25th March at 7:30pm in Kilwaughter Village Hall. Roy Beggs said “The free workshop will be a good opportunity for the rural community to raise their awareness of the dangers relating to slurry, animals, falls and equipment.  I would urge you to consider attending this workshop, which is organised by the farm safety partnership, in conjunction with the agri-rural partnership.”

Democracy finds its voice in election of a Sinn Fein Speaker

His election shows that our government is working By Liam Clarke – 15 January 2015 The election of Mitchel McLaughlin as Speaker at Stormont is a good day for democracy here – it shows that political commitments can be delivered. That feeling needs to be built in the coming months. It is not necessarily a matter of who is the best candidate. John Dallat and Roy Beggs who stood against Mr McLaughlin were also capable of the job. It is more about political stability. As things stand, neither the DUP nor Sinn Fein can hold power at Stormont on their own. They have got to work together or they both lose.
