Larne river tragedy: ‘Dark cloud’ over town after girl’s death

A friend of the 14-year-old girl who lost her life in a tragic accident in Larne on Tuesday night has said that the town “really does have a dark cloud over it” after the tragedy. All branches of the emergency services converged in large numbers on the River Inver in the town after it was reported that a girl had fallen into the water at around 9pm. Although she was rescued from the water police later confirmed that she had died. After a post mortem yesterday, police declared her death was not suspicious. Named locally as Gracie Gordon, her friends paid tribute to her on social media. “You can just feel the sadness everywhere today” one said. ‘A truly unimaginable tragedy’… Larne in shock after Gracie Gordon is swept to her death in swollen river

A teenage girl’s death after falling into a Co Antrim river has been described as an “unimaginable loss”. The 14-year-old died after falling into the Inver River in Larne at around 9pm on Tuesday. She has been named locally as Gracie Gordon who lived in the town and attended St Killian’s College. A huge rescue mission was launched involving police, coastguard crews and the ambulance service. The police helicopter also provided air support. It’s understood Gracie was pulled from the water and taken to Antrim Area Hospital where she tragically passed away. There was speculation she had been out with friends when she tripped and fell while she walked along the river bank. After a post mortem yesterday, police ruled out foul play in the death. Gerry Kelly: MLA interviewed by police over car clamp

Media captionSinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly was filmed removing a car clamp Sinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly has been interviewed by police for alleged criminal damage after he was filmed removing a clamp from his car. The North Belfast MLA was recorded using what appears to be bolt cutters to remove the clamp on Friday. In a tweet on Sunday evening, Mr Kelly said: “No one can be above the law.” He said he had made a “voluntary arrangement” to talk to police. Footage of the incident was posted on social media. His actions were criticised by other political parties. Stormontgate. Namagate. Clampgate? In his tweet, Mr Kelly said he wanted to resolve the matter “as soon as possible”. Earlier, police confirmed they had interviewed a 64-year-old man at Musgrave Park police station in relation to an allegation of criminal damage at Exchange Street in Belfast on Friday.
