Beggs Concerned at Breast Cancer waiting times in NHSCT

Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has outlined his concern at figures which indicate that just over one in two breast cancer patients are seen within the 31 day target in the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

Mr Beggs said “I am advised that waiting times in the Northern Trust for breast cancer with a 31 day target, has been met in 58.4% of cases in 2016 so far. To learn that just over half of breast cancer patients are being seen within this 31 day target is concerning and suggests that increased services and resources need to be provided to the Trust in order to increase the performance. The staff do a good job in often trying and difficult circumstances and we need to ensure that we do all that we can to support them, and in doing so helping to support patients.”

In the 16/17 year to date 51.5% of breast cancer patients were seen within 31 days in April, compared with 75% in May, 58.6% in June and 51.9% in July.
