Roy Beggs MLA at the Beltoy crossroad

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs has welcomed assurances from DfI Roads that work will commence on road safety measures at the crossroad junction on Beltoy Road, where the road meets the Manse Road, Ballywillin Road and Upper Carneal Road.

Roy Beggs MLA said “I am aware of a road traffic collision that occurred in April at the end of the Upper Carneal Road, at the junction of the Beltoy Road with the Manse Road. I am advised that a vehicle drove through the cross junction and collided with another vehicle. I wrote to Dfi Roads to ask that they consider a number of road safety improvements in the area and they have confirmed the following:”

Upper Carneal Road jct Beltoy Road

– Erect advance warning STOP signage with 100 yds plates with yellow backing boards, rather than the current advance warning sign. This should highlight to the drivers of the junction ahead giving more time to slow down before approaching the crossing;
– Place “STOP 100yds” road marking at sign;
– Refresh current road markings;
– At the junction with Beltoy Road, replace the current STOP sign with STOP on yellow backing boards, This should highlight to the drivers that they must stop at this junction.

Manse Road

– Erect advance warning STOP signage with 100 yds plates and yellow backing boards. This should highlight to drivers of the junction ahead giving more time to slow down before approaching the crossing;
– Place “STOP 100yds” road marking at sign;
– At the junction with Beltoy Road, replace the current STOP sign with STOP on yellow backing boards, This should highlight to the drivers that they must stop at this junction.

Beltoy Road

– Replace 1 faded Crossroad warning sign;
– Place SLOW road markings at this sign. These should give warning of the crossing ahead;

Ballywillin Road

– Place SLOW road markings at Crossroads warning sign providing warning of the crossroads ahead.

Concluding, Roy Beggs MLA said “I hope all the proposed improvements will be completed soon and that these enhancements will make the visibility approaching the junctions safe.”
