Beggs supports reduction in fuel duty and VAT for petrol and diesel
East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs, who serves as Party Spokesperson for Transport, has written to the Finance Minister Conor Murphy MLA asking “ What discussions he has had with the UK Government to identify the feasibility of reducing fuel duty and VAY for petrol and diesel in Northern Ireland.” The UUP MLA added “I believe there needs to be a concerted effort across the UK to address the cost of living crisis, as inflation continues to soar. A temporary reduction in fuel duties and VAT for petrol and diesel would be a starting point. I have pressed the Finance Minister on this idea and I will be a taking a keen interest on Wednesday as Chancellor Rishi Sunak presents his Spring Statement to the House of Commons. Commenting on news that a number of East Antrim schools are to Advance in Planning under the Major Capital Works Programme, Roy Beggs MLA said “It is welcome and long overdue that the 4 East Antrim schools have been prioritised by the Department of Education for capital works at Larne High School, Larne Grammar School, Carrickfergus Academy and Belfast High School. Beggs Supports the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Bill
Roy Beggs MLA, Ulster Unionist Party Infrastructure Spokesperson has spoken in support of a Stormont Bill that could potentially save each private motor insurance policy around £50. Speaking during the Final Stage of the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Bill at Stormont, Roy Beggs MLA said: “I and my Ulster Unionist colleagues continue to support the Bill as it proceeds through the Assembly and I now at Final Stage. It tries to put right some of the implications of the Vnuk court judgement of 2014. Corresponding legislation is at an advanced stage at Westminster — a private Member’s Bill that has been widely supported. Beggs pays tribute to Christopher Stalford MLA
Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs, who is a Deputy Speaker in the Northern Ireland Assembly, has paid tribute to Christopher Stalford MLA, the Assembly`s Principal Deputy Speaker, who has passed away suddenly. Mr Beggs said: “I was shocked to learn of the passing of Christopher Stalford, the Principal Deputy Speaker. Christopher had a great wit and a turn of phrase that assisted him to articulate his views and manage any unruly MLAs. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, his young family, friends and colleagues.”
Beggs suggests that Council offer a Royal Oak sapling for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee tree at Stormont
East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs, who serves as a Deputy Speaker at Stormont, has written to Mid & East Antrim Borough Council to ask that they consider donating a sapling from the Royal Oak Grove, Clements Wood in Larne, to the NI Assembly Commission. In his letter to Council, Roy Beggs wrote: “You may have picked up from the media that the Commission at the Northern Ireland Assembly have now agreed to plant a tree to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I understand that under the ridiculous Northern Ireland protocol there remains difficulties in importing trees from the rest of the UK. However, being aware of Mid and East Antrim’s Royal Oak Grove which was planted from acorns from the late Queen Mother’s estate I thought that a small tree or sapling from it would be very appropriate for the Platinum Jubilee at Stormont.
