Beggs promotes regular health checkups

Ulster Unionist Health spokesperson Roy Beggs has expressed his support for increased Health Checks provided by GPs in the management of health conditions to improve local primary treatment and lessen pressures on our A&E’s. Speaking in a debate at Stormont, the East Antrim MLA said: “In October, November and December 2012 not a single target set by the Health Minister in regard to A&E waiting times, was achieved by the consultant led A&E’s. It is clear that something needs to change. I challenged the Minister to explain why there has been a further 4% reduction to 71% of A&E patients being seen within 4hrs in Northern Ireland whilst almost every major A&E units in England, Scotland and Wales meet the 95% target. Clearly there is a need for improvements to our A&E facilities and hospital support services. There are too many patients arriving at our hospital emergency units with preventable … Continue reading

Red Letter Day as Contractor is appointed for A2 Roadworks

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party MLA Roy Beggs Jnr, who for many years had been lobbying for the A2 Greenisland up-grade, has welcomed the award of the contract for the A2 Road improvement scheme. Mr Beggs said, “This is a red letter day for the residents, businesses and commuters from Carrickfergus and surrounding area who have suffered significant traffic congestion and delays for decades. With the appointment of a main contractor, the much needed and long awaited work to uncork the Greenisland A2 traffic bottleneck is ready to go. It can be expected that with all the statutory processes completed, work will begin in a few months after the contractor sets up his site yard. At this point it is worth reflecting that the appointment of an Ulster Unionist Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy with a mandate to progress the A2 road dualling in June 2011 was a crucial factor … Continue reading

Roy Beggs condemns attacks on Alliance Party Offices and Police

Roy Beggs MLA has condemned the attack on the Alliance Party Offices and Police in Carrickfergus. The Ulster Unionist East Antrim MLA said, “There can be no excuse for this arson attack and for the attack on the Police using bottles and stones whilst they were trying to prevent criminal activity and trying to uphold law and order.’ “Most local people who gathered sought to peacefully protest against the decision to remove the Union Flag from Belfast City Hall. I would urge an end to this lawlessness by the few. Such criminality does nothing for the Union. People need to engage in constructive action to strengthen the union, not destructive, illegal actions that weaken it. As my Party Leader said “what unionism needs today is brains, not brawn.”’

Commenting on the opening of the new park and ride facility adjacent to the A8 off the old Belfast road at Millbrook, local UUUP MLA Roy Beggs Jnr said: “I was delighted to see my party colleague, Danny Kennedy Minister for Regional Development at the opening of the Millbrook Park and Ride.
