We need to change the law to help deter Metal Theft – Roy Beggs

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim, who is holding consultation events for MLA’s and Scrap Dealers is also asking for the public to respond to his Scrap Metal Dealers Bill (Private Member’s Bill) consultation which closes on 1 February 2014; Roy Beggs is proposing to end cash trading in Scrap Metal and to create an audit trail for scrap metal transactions, so inhibiting the 1500+ metal thefts occurring annually in NI. Roy Beggs MLA said: “The scrap metal industry is recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers as being the principal market for stolen metal. Roy Beggs MLA launches Private Member’s Bill to Deter Metal Theft

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim Roy Beggs has launched a public consultation exercise on a Private Member’s Bill he is piloting through Stormont.  A consultation document published on his website aims to gather feedback on the idea of new legislation to regulate scrap metal dealers, in order to help combat the ongoing problem of metal theft.
