The UUP man read a lesson, laid a wreath and led the last post ceremony, which took place in the Senate Chamber at Stormont. Roy Beggs MLA said “It was an honour to lead the service alongside Deputy Speaker Dallat MLA and Dr Malcolm McKibbin, the Head of the Civil Service. It is important that we remember the fact that so many of our forefathers sacrificed their tomorrow for our today.  We will be forever in their debt and the living owe it to those who can no longer speak, to tell their story for them.” “The Senate Chamber was used as part of the war effort during WW2, as a RAF operational HQ. 6 November 2014 Last updated at 16:12 ET By Chris Page BBC News NI Gregory Campbell was banned for speaking for a day in the assembly, after his comments Like all contact sports – politics requires resilience, stamina and focus. But politicians often accuse each other of punching below the belt. The controversy over Gregory Campbell’s parody of the Irish language has led to questions over what the rules of engagement should be in the cut-and-thrust of parliamentary debate. The DUP MLA began a question to the Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín with: “Curry my yogurt, can coca coalyer.” Ms Ní Chuilín accused him of “pure ignorance” and both nationalist parties made a complaint to the Speaker’s office. Mr Campbell was banned from speaking for one day. It’s the fourth time an MLA has been punished by having speaking rights restricted during the current assembly term. Beggs questions Wilson’s failure to support local Health Service

Roy Beggs MLA has reacted  angrily to Sammy Wilson MP,MLA who, only a few days before the announcement of the closure of Whiteabbey  Minor injury, was arguing that the Health Service could cope with further savings. Roy Beggs MLA said “As someone who has personally relied on Whiteabbey Minor Injury unit on a number of occasions, I am aware of the high quality of service that is provided on a timely basis.  Without Whiteabbey treating many local patients, waiting times at Antrim, the Mater and the Royal Emergency Departments can be expected to grow further.   My constituents from Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey will all be adversely effected by this decision to end the Whiteabbey Minor Injury service solely because of budget pressures. Sammy Wilson should hang his head in shame for his repeated underfunding of our NHS when he set the previous budget 2011 – 2015.  Even this week on … Continue reading

The MLA had posed a question to the Health Minister, before the announcement was made, pressing for increased provision at the hospital. Roy Beggs MLA said “What plans has he (the Health, Social Services and Public Safety Minister) to minimise waiting times at the Emergency Department in Antrim Area Hospital, given that waiting times are normally exceeded as a result of winter pressures; and whether he will increase provision at Whiteabbey Hospital Minor Injuries Unit.” In response, Minister Wells states “I look to the Health and Social Care Board to work with the Health and Social Care Trusts to ensure that effective plans are in place to respond to anticipated winter pressures on emergency departments.
