Beggs Urges Public Uptake of Organ Donation

Ulster Unionist Party East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs has urged people to consider signing up as an organ donor, during Transpant week 2015. Mr Beggs said “As Transplant week gets underway this week, I would urge you to consider becoming an NHS Organ Donor and having the conversation with your friends and family.  A kidney transplant for example avoids the need for many hours of kidney dialysis each week and dramatically improves someone’s quality of life.   You could even make be the difference between life and death for someone within your community.” See attached picture of Roy Beggs MLA attending an Organ Donation event at Parliament Buildings on 07/09/2015

Police issue safety advice to internet users

It is estimated that about 80 per cent of the population of Northern Ireland has access to the internet – and the number of people who have never used it is reducing. A lot of people find the worldwide web educational, entertaining and useful, but not everyone on the web is who they claim to be. Fraudsters use the internet to line their own pockets; sexual predators use it to target victims. What they need most of all is to know who you are, so you must protect your identify. To do that you should: • Restrict access to personal information or photographs to your friends • Don’t accept invitations to become ‘friends’ with people you do not know • If you are on a chat site – even one as seemingly innocuous as about your favourite football team – limit the information that could help strangers identity you • … Continue reading

Beggs Welcomes Work at Glynn Station

Roy Beggs MLA said “The work has progressed well, with the contractor working with a narrow one week window to remove the old structure and return it to use. We all have to appreciate the assistance of the local residents in enabling access which has been helpful to the contractors carrying out their work. I am also led to believe that the train is now back in operation and I would like to put on record my support for the further investment and long term commitment to the infrastructure of this section of the Larne Line.” The replacement bridge was constructed within a week to minimise disruption to rail services, who had to reply on a replacement bus service during this period.

Beggs calls for concessionary rates for over 60’s in East Antrim

Following a constituency enquiry, Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has called for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to encourage greater use of leisure facilities and to implement consistent concessionary rates for over 60’s. Roy Beggs MLA said “I have been contacted by a number of constituents in relation to the disparity in Mid and East Antrim Boroughs leisure services concessionary pricing for over 60’s.  I have contacted the Council to ask that they explore the option of adopting the policy of the former Larne Borough Council whereby a concessionary leisure membership was available for those over 60, during off peak times throughout the week.” “It this was introduced, I believe that this would benefit residents of the new Council right across the Borough by increasing health, wellbeing and affordability and also help Council to manage their usage levels at facilities during peak and off peak periods.”
