Beggs expresses disappointment as Larne–Troon route axed by P&O

Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim Roy Beggs, has expressed his disappointment at the news that the Larne to Troon ferry service, which has operated since 2003, is being discontinued as a result of ongoing losses on the route. Roy Beggs MLA said: “There has been concern in Larne for the future of the Troon service since the decision last summer not to renew the charter of the Express ship.  It had been hoped that an alternative vessel was being sourced, therefore it is very disappointing to learn that yet another ferry route from the Port of Larne has now been axed. “With the upgrading of the A8 Larne to Belfast road, the Port of Larne is even more accessible for freight and tourists.  I had hoped that this would have enhanced the prospects of the Troon ferry service, which I was aware was at risk. Beggs Presses for Sale of A2 Greenisland Vested Houses Following Arson Attack

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party MLA, Roy Beggs, has contacted the Regional Development Minister, Michelle McIlveen, MLA to urge her Department to release land and 17 houses on the A2 Shore Road, Greenisland, for sale.  Such a move could minimise the potential for anti-social behaviour or arson in the area. Roy Beggs MLA, on the 21st December 2015, wrote to the Minister, stating “You will be aware from news reports that a suspected arson attack last weekend resulted in closure of the A2 carriageway owing to levels of smoke.  The property has been described as one of the ‘abandoned’ properties beside the A2.  Can you please confirm if this property was one of the properties vested as part of the A2 road widening scheme and whether or not it remained in public ownership?  Can you please also confirm whether or not all the vested properties have, as of yet, been … Continue reading
