Beggs Raises Cyber Bullying and Criminality with Justice Minister

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs MLA has questioned the Justice Minister Claire Sugden on the important and growing issue of cyber bullying and online criminality. Mr Beggs, a member of Stormont’s Justice Committee, said; “Can the Minister of Justice outline what action she is taking to address cyber bullying and cyber criminality?” The Minister stated “in respect of cyber bullying, my Department, through the local Policing & Community Safety Partnership’s (PCSPs), have done much to develop internet safety and tackle the growing prevalence of cyberbullying and some of its very harmful consequences.” “…On cyber criminality more generally, it is estimated that more than 50% of all crimes committed nowadays utilise the cyber environment to some degree. Beggs Supports World Diabetes Day

Around 4,100 currently do not have a permanent home – a jump of 12% in the past two years alone. The bleak statistics offer an alarming insight into the plight some families face today. 70 families in Carrickfergus, 35 families in Larne and 238 in Newtownabbey with children that are homeless

Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has uncovered through an Assembly Question that currently there are 70 families in Carrickfergus, 35 families in Larne and 238 in Newtownabbey with children that are homeless. The shocking figures were revealed in answer to an Assembly question that he submitted. The MLA for East Antrim said: “More needs to be done by the Northern Ireland Executive to end homelessness amongst families with children in particular. It is unacceptable that the number of homeless families has increased between 2013/14 (3645) to 2015/16 (4100).  The figures provided show that there are 70 families in Carrickfergus, 35 families in Larne and 238 in Newtownabbey that are deemed to be homeless this is unacceptable.  The Executive should be working to protect our most vulnerable and ensure that no family, especially one with children and young people, is faced with homelessness. Beggs Questions Health Minister on Delay Discharges at Hospitals and A&E

Mr Beggs, Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman for East Antrim asked the Minister of Health to “advise how delayed discharge is adversely affecting our hospitals and A&E departments and to state what she is doing about it?” during question time at Stormont this week. In response to Mr Beggs MLA, the Minister said; “It is really important that trusts continue to do absolutely everything they can to avoid delayed discharges. I think they are trying to do everything they can. New initiatives are being looked at for how they can do that; for example, can they have a discharge area that people could be moved to? There are all sorts of issues. There could be family issues or people not being picked up in time. There is a whole raft of reasons.
