Secretary of State cannot continue to ignore the crisis in the health service – Beggs

Ulster Unionist Health Spokesperson, Roy Beggs MLA, has said the Secretary of State cannot continue to ignore the worsening crisis in the local health service. He was commenting after the latest publication of cancer waiting times which once again revealed the scale of delays facing local patients. Roy Beggs said: “Cancer is a disease that thrives in a vacuum. The sooner it is detected and treatment can begin, the better the chance a patient has of a successful outcome. Tragically with the current delays some local cancer patients may be coming to harm as a result of the unprecedented pressures in the health service. “The publication of these latest waiting times – which in any normal democracy or society would be more than enough to shame political parties into action – further demonstrates the urgent need for an Executive and Health Minister. Man left with life-changing injuries after sledgehammer attack in Northern Ireland

A MAN has been left with life-changing injuries after he was badly beaten with a sledgehammer during a burglary in Larne, Co Antrim late last night. Police received a report at around 11.25pm that several men carrying sledgehammers were seen running down an alleyway in the Woodvale area of the town while a man could be heard screaming from a nearby promoter. When police arrived at the property, they noticed a number of windows were smashed. Inside, they located a man aged in his 20’s who had sustained what were described as life-changing injuries to his legs and arms. He was taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for these injuries. Woman tells of horror at hearing sledgehammer victim’s screams

The scene in the Woodvale area of Larne where a man was attacked in his home By Brett Campbell September 18 2018 A neighbour of a young Co Antrim man who suffered “life-changing” injuries in a brutal paramilitary-style attack has expressed her shock after responding to his desperate cries for help. The victim, aged in his 20s, is recovering in hospital after a gang of men entered his Woodvale home in Larne at around 11.25pm on Sunday before beating him with sledgehammers. It is understood he lived in the property alone with his two dogs and pet cat. NHS workers food bank vouchers offer met with anger

News that Northern Ireland health workers are being offered food bank vouchers to help them make ends meet was met with an angry response yesterday. NHS staff at the Royal and Ulster Hospitals in Belfast will be given the chance to use the service by union Unison. The union says low paid workers struggling to pay rapidly spiralling bills will leave many staff with no option but to take the vouchers. Larne sledgehammer beating was ‘paramilitary style assault’ say police

Police are appealing for information after a man was beaten in a paramilitary-style sledgehammer attack in Larne on Sunday night. The incident occurred in a house at Woodvale, in the Tullygarley area of the town, at approximately 11.25 pm. The victim, who is aged in his 20s, is being treated in hospital for life-changing injuries. Police have confirmed that the “brutal attack” is being treated as a “paramilitary style assault”.
