Health and fitness professionals from east Antrim shortlisted

A number of health and fitness professionals from east Antrim are in the running for accolades at a prestigious awards ceremony next month. Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council staff member Janice McConnell has been shortlisted in the Nutritionist/Dietitian of the Year category at the Northern Ireland Health and Fitness Awards, sponsored by Centra. Meanwhile, Newtownabbey personal trainer Ben Mudge is up for Health and Fitness Blogger/Influencer of the Year. Carrickfergus personal trainer Tash Bamford from Tash PT is one of the contenders for Female Personal Trainer of the Year, while Larne gym manager Andrew Falconer from Just Active is in the running for Gym Manager of the Year. Bin collections in Carrick during Christmas and New Year

Household bin collection dates for the Christmas and New Year period in Carrick have been announced. Bins which were due to have been emptied on December 25 (Christmas Day) will now be collected earlier on Saturday December 22. Collections which would have taken place on Boxing Day (Wednesday December 26) will be emptied on Saturday December 29. Bin collections scheduled for January 1 now take place on Saturday January 5. Greenisland FC’s baby boom sees full team of new arrivals

Senior players at Greenisland Football Club are about to learn a whole new meaning to the words ‘dribbling’ and ‘screamers’ as 11 babies have been born to first and second team players and coaches between May and October this year. The childhood club of Northern Ireland stars Jonny Evans, Corry Evans, Craig Cathcart and Michael Smith has enjoyed many a success on the pitch since it was established in 1995, most recently becoming champions of the Super Cup NI’s Minor section and reaching the Fona Cab Junior Cup Final at Windsor Park. Train manager in running for award

A senior train manager from Whitehead has been nominated for a prestigious accolade in the 2018 Rail Staff Awards. Robbie McKeown is a finalist in the Outstanding Customer Service category. Robbie, who works on the Enterprise service, will attend the finals in Birmingham on November 29. He is the only Translink nominee in the awards. Robbie joined the railway in 1991, starting at York Road Station in north Belfast as a conductor. For the first five years of his career, he was on the frontline of suburban services to Larne, Bangor, Portrush and Londonderry services. In 1997, Northern Ireland Railways invested and introduced a fleet of 28 new carriages that were built by De-Deitrich in France for the cross-border ‘Enterprise’ rail service between Belfast and Dublin.
