McDonald’s closed early after anti-social behaviour

A fast food restaurant was forced to close early in Carrick on Saturday night due to anti-social behaviour. A spokesperson for PSNI Carrickfergus said that McDonald’s shut its doors after a crowd of 50 youths congregated at Rodger’s Quay. The crowd dispersed after police arrived at the scene. The PSNI spokesperson stated: “We are aware of the identity of at least one of the offenders and more may be identified by CCTV. Needless to say we will be paying them a visit in due course and it won’t be for just a warning. “We will be speaking to their parents too and the offenders will be pursued through the criminal justice system.” This incident was one of “several reports” of anti-social behaviour on Saturday night. Carrick’s Sullatober site is ‘Recycling Centre of the Year’

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council celebrated success at the Sustainable Ireland Awards. The local government authority won the Safety in Waste category for its Waveney Road Household Recycling Centre in Ballymena as well as first place in the Household Waste Recycling Centre of the Year for its Sullatober site in Carrickfergus. MEA was also a finalist the categories of Sustainable Company of the Year, Food Waste Prevention and Management, and Waste Management Team of the Year. The Mayor, Cllr Lindsay Millar, said: “We are delighted to have taken two top spots at these awards. Charity evening tribute with Hugo Duncan

A charity evening will take place this evening (Friday September 21) in memory of well-known Carrick woman and fundraiser Phyllis Woodside. The event featuring Hugo Duncan and guests will be held at Loughshore Hotel, in Carrickfergus. Doors open at 7.00 pm. Phyllis Woodside. Also taking part will be Susan McCann, Billy McFarland, Crawford Bell, Boxcar Brian and Country Harmony. There will be a prize draw and raffle in aid of the Chest Heart and Stroke and Macmillan charities. Tickets are priced at £10 and are available from the hotel’s reception and Ollie’s in Carrick. Mrs. Woodside was widely known as a tireless fundraiser. Carrick dance studio poised for national success

A Carrick dance school has reached the final of a national competition after being judged to be one of the best in Northern Ireland. Studio 86, based at Nelson Street, will be taking part in the next stage of “That’s Showbiz” next March. Studio 86 had entered four teams in the Northern Ireland semi-final which was held in Lisburn, in lyrical, hip hop and modern categories involving 32 females and one male dancer. A troupe of 15 dancers will now be heading to Liverpool to present a lyrical dance based on the theme of suicide and mental health awareness.
