Beggs highlights increasing ED Waiting times – indictment on DUP/SF Executive

Roy Beggs has said that the lengthening Hospital Emergency waiting times at Antrim, the Mater and The Royal Hospitals were an indictment on the outgoing Executive, and the successive Sinn Fein and DUP ministers responsible for Health and whose Parties have failed to work collectively to finance and to deliver their much talked about health reform and improvement. He urge voters to give their verdict on the DUP/SF Executive’s disastrous performance. Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist candidate said, “I am aware from talking to local patients, their families and health care staff of the growing pressure on our GP’s and hospitals and on our Emergency Departments in particular. Beggs Presses Education Minister on Greenisland Primary School Enhancement Work

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party representative Roy Beggs has pressed the Education Minister for necessary investment through the School Enhancement Programme for Greenisland Primary School. Roy Beggs said “I visited Greenisland Primary School in December and discussed the need for further investment with the principal.  Having pressed the Education Authority for investment I then posed an Assembly Written Question to the Minister asking ‘When Greenisland Primary School will receive the upgrade and enhancement work required by the school?” In response to the Assembly Question, the Minister advised “On the 25th January I announced a second call for proposals under the School Enhancement Programme (SEP).  The School Enhancement Programme will target investment to meet immediate and pressing needs in schools where a capital new build is not deemed affordable or deliverable.  The Education Authority, as Greenisland Primary School’s managing authority, will now have the opportunity to submit an application to the … Continue reading

Beggs calls for community vigilance against men of violence

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim, who himself walks with his family at Carnfunnock Country Park, has praised the vigilance of the member of the public in reporting the suspicious items and welcomed the actions by the police and explosive experts in retrieving the explosives and partially constructed bombs. Roy Beggs MLA said, “Carnfunnock is a beautiful, tranquil area where individuals and families enjoy country walks.  It is particularly popular with families with young children at weekends.   Those who placed this cache of explosives and bomb making equipment in this area have endangered children and the general public. Beggs says latest funding not enough to address Health Service budget crisis

Ulster Unionist health spokesperson Roy Beggs MLA has stated that the additional funding announced today for the Health Service is far short of what is required to address the shortfall in the Health Budget, and that the fact that an additional £250 million has made available to the Health Service Budget since May 2011 vindicated the stance taken by Michael McGimpsey when Minister of Health. Mr Beggs said: “The £30 million announced by the Finance Minister is only a step towards what is actually required to fill the black hole in the current Health Budget which the Ulster Unionist Party warned was inevitable given the budget settlement in 2011. We need to change the law to help deter Metal Theft – Roy Beggs

Roy Beggs, Ulster Unionist MLA for East Antrim, who is holding consultation events for MLA’s and Scrap Dealers is also asking for the public to respond to his Scrap Metal Dealers Bill (Private Member’s Bill) consultation which closes on 1 February 2014; Roy Beggs is proposing to end cash trading in Scrap Metal and to create an audit trail for scrap metal transactions, so inhibiting the 1500+ metal thefts occurring annually in NI. Roy Beggs MLA said: “The scrap metal industry is recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers as being the principal market for stolen metal.
