Beggs Welcomes 1st Organ Donation Family Discussion Day on 11th December

Joanne Dobson MLA and Roy Beggs MLAEast Antrim MLA Roy Beggs Jr. has welcomed news that the Northern Irelands first Organ Donation Family discussion day will take place on the 11th December, with the intent to encourage families from across Northern Ireland to sit down with their loved ones and discuss their views on organ donation.

Roy Beggs, who is a member of the All Party Group on Organ Donation at Stormont, said “Please take time to consider signing up to organ donation – it will save lives.  At present, it is estimated that 15 people day every day in Northern Ireland waiting for a transplant, even though 84% of people in Northern Ireland say that they agree to the idea of organ donation.  Only 38% of families give consent to donation when faced with the choice.  I would urge you to have a chat with a loved one on the 11th to discuss organ donation .”

If you haven’t already signed the register, or would like more information, please take the time to visit the Organ Donation NI website http://www.organdonationni.info/ which is full of useful information and resources.
